Workshop: Geometric Patterns in Architecture

The workshop was originally named as "İslam Sanatı'nda Geometrik Desenler" by the instructor and mathematician Ezgi Kara (IG: ezgi_geometriatolyesi). The workshop continued for 12 weeks and focus of the works were mainly the geometric patterns within architectural spaces and details which were produced under the reign of Islamic (Turkic-Islamic sometimes) civilizations during the history, yet since geometry is a universal way of creation, labeling these patterns as "only belonged to the Islamic art" would be wrong. During history, geometrical patterns and the geometry's itself always been an attraction point.

For 12 weeks, as students we examined some mosques and their elemental parts (mimbars, mihrabs etc.), seperators, paintings (from Osman Hamdi Bey), fountains, palaces (Alhambra Palace etc.), and some restoration mistakes (pattern wise). The analysis of the existing patterns was practised by compass, rulers, and technical drawing pens, yet since they were copyrighted by the instructor, I will not share the analysis phase. Here are some geometric patterns which were interpreted and colored via watercolour by me;
